A natural pool carved into the volcanic rock a few minutes from Bosa — a basin of crystal-clear water enclosed by a ring of stone. A short walk leads to this spot, perfect for a refreshing swim far from the crowded beaches, best when the sea is calm.

A small pebble cove a few kilometers from Bosa, framed by reddish basalt cliffs and transparent water. Reached by a short dirt road and a brief walk down; less busy than the main beaches, perfect for a quiet swim far from the crowds.

A hidden cove on the western Sardinian coast, between Bosa and Porto Alabe. White trachyte cliffs sculpted by the sea, sea caves and turquoise water make it one of the most striking spots in the area. A short walk down gets you there; best at calm sea, bring water and shelter from the sun.

A wild cove on the coast between Bosa and Capo Marrargiu, reached on foot along a path through scrub and basalt. Clear water, sculpted cliffs and very few visitors: a still-authentic corner of Sardinia, for those who don't mind a short walk.

In Tresnuraghes, along the coastline that drops down toward Bosa, Columbargia is a pale-pebble beach set in Mediterranean scrub. The water shifts through every shade of turquoise and the rocky seabed makes it great for snorkeling. Access on foot from a panoramic road.

S'Archittu is a limestone arch carved by the sea, the iconic landmark of the Santa Caterina di Pittinuri coast, about 30 minutes by car from Modolo. The cove is small but striking, with crystal-clear water and the chance to jump from the rocks around the arch. A great afternoon spot for swimming and photos.

A former silver-mining village on the north-west Sardinian coast, about an hour and a half by car from Modolo. The historic industrial buildings, now being restored, look out over crystal-clear water: a unique mix of industrial archaeology and wild coves to explore among white rocks and transparent sea. Pair the visit with the Argentiera Mining Museum (MAR).

The Piscinas dunes, in south-western Sardinia, are one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Mediterranean: miles of wind-shaped golden sand, backed by the former Ingurtosu mines. It takes a couple of hours by car, but walking the dunes and swimming in the wild open sea is well worth the trip.
